Why Good Employees Leave: The Steep Price of Poor Leadership

📣 Bad leaders, your good people are leaving.

The cost is more than you think.

I was with a friend this weekend.

He told me that after 15 years he’s leaving his job.

The reason?

His management.

They changed his pay structure. “Making the carrot smaller and the stick longer.”

They’re micromanaging his work.

They’re not open to feedback.

They have no idea that he’s looking for another job, that he’s on his final round of interviews, and is expecting an offer in 4 days.

Here’s what this company is losing:

⇢ 15 years of industry knowledge ⇢ 15 years of high performance ⇢ 15 years of connections ⇢ 15 years of loyalty

Is it worth it?

So that they can save 10% on payroll expenses?

It’s going to cost them so much more.

Companies extracting profit from employees instead of the value they create is a growing and desperate trend in 2023.

It’s short-term thinking.

And companies that prioritize profits over people are going to lose in the long run.
