Unmasking Fear: How Florida's Book Challenges Are Stifling Conversations and Changing History

Please share so people can see what Florida laws (and parents) are trying to do. From the hearing yesterday in Leon County Schools where someone challenged I AM BILLIE JEAN KING: Florida mom “says her child was harmed after reading a page of” the book. Among her objections: Her daughter ”… brought questions to her mother.” “I object to material that discusses being gay & what it means to be gay.” Unreal. Especially considering that the entire goal of our books is to promote conversation and dialogue, especially within families. I will say it again and again, book challenges like this and book bans are nothing more than fear. They come from people who are afraid of losing their power and control. If you want to pull books from libraries, you’re on the wrong side of history.
