Redefining Mentorship: How Unconventional Influences Can Propel Your Personal and Professional Growth
As a leader, you’re often told to “find a mentor”.
It’s advice thats thrown around loosely, with little instruction on how.
So, how do you find one? And where do you look?
My take?
Dont make the word “mentor” so special.
The woman in this picture with me is my friend, Colleen Waller.
She doesn’t hold the title of “mentor”, but to me, she is one.
Why? Because she embodies what true mentorship is about.
– I trust her to give it to me straight – She sees potential in me, even when I dont – She’s not just a leader, but a partner in self-development – She challenges me to question my assumptions and pushes me to grow
Mentorship isnt a perfect guide with a perfect resume.
Its someone who contributes to your journey in meaningful ways …in and outside of your career.
Colleen has been invaluable in my self-development.
She doesnt just tell me what to do; she supports me as a peer.
Helping me both with professional challenges and personal growth.
So my advice 👉 if youre looking for a mentor, look around you.
They might not have the specific title or resume you expect.
But if they challenge you and support you, that’s what truly matters.
That’s someone who will help you grow. That’s a mentor.

It was my sons birthday and he fell asleep after the crazy day he had 😂
